Karin Zeller lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she has worked as an artist for the past 18 years. Born in Germany, in 1956, Karin was 11 years old when her family moved to Ontario, Canada, where they lived on a farm. She always loved drawing and art, ever since she was a little girl, and it was always assumed that she would become an artist one day. Her artistic ambitions were interrupted when marriage and children took priority, but when her youngest started school, she returned to her art studies through the Independent Learning Centre. The encouragement and advice from her tutors led her to doing pencil portraits as a business for five years. In 1993, Karin moved to Melbourne, Australia, with her Australian husband and two kids. Eighteen years later, they are now settled in the western suburbs of Melbourne, not far from the beach and enjoying the laid back Aussie life style. She has her own studio in her back yard, where she paints and teaches art classes and workshops. Karin has been teaching art classes for about three years, since joining the Hobson’s Bay Arts Society. She recently completed a Small Business Management course, through RMIT University NEIS program, which helps people turn their skills and talents into a business. Inspiration for her work comes from many sources, including life, music and imagination. Some of her favourite artists are Picasso, Paul Klee, Henry Rousseau, and Van Gough, Georgia O’Keefe. Other more modern influences are Nancy Tichborne, who has inspired her to learn watercolour, Laurel Burch, whose colourful cats have inspired Karin’s colourful cat creations, and Ken Done, whose modern and colourful Aussie style appeals to her. Her favourite mediums are watercolour and acrylics. Her style is experimental, creative, fun, and playful. Karin is open-minded to a variety of styles in art and she appreciates all kinds of art from You can see more of Karin's artwork HERE. Her artwork is available as prints, calendars, and greeting cards HERE.
