E.P. Hoyt is a student at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA where he studies art and theatre. He is a member of the Performance Art group on campus and the bass player in the band Fourth Floor Orange. Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Hoyt has been making art, music, and theatre from an early age. His work has been featured in galleries, on television, on the streets, and in the bars and clubs, stretching across nearly every genre and media. An actor of the stage, Hoyt has been a leading force in many theatrical productions, and even bridged into the world of acting for the camera. Hoyt is the bass guitarist and songwriter in a band of merry men and women, called Fourth Floor Orange. “The group is an eclectic music exchange featuring influences of folk/blues rock, ethnic undertones, and collaborative song writing.” Fourth Floor Orange has released their first two albums “Between the Trees” and “Border Time”, both available on iTunes and CD Baby.com. Hoyt is also a writer of poetry, playscripts, original prose, and one particular autobiography…His work has been expressed through sculpture, drawing, graphic design, performance art, etc. etc. etc., for no one set medium has been solely harnessed. Hoyt is heavily influenced by the music of the band Kansas, the writings of Brian Jacques, Michael Crichton, and Jules Verne, and the artwork of his colleagues. His artwork is largely based upon the world that we see, but the parts that are not widely recognized as potential for art. “Old photographs, heavily pixilated and blurring can often times hold the most unique shapes and colors, and every artist knows the value of scrap metal.” A majority of his current work is either performance, or related to his music. Hoyt takes the lead of the design process for his CD booklets, t-shirt designs, posters, and stage shows. He has been working in heavy collaboration with photographer and performer Katie Alderson, who is fellow art student, in the design projects for FFO. His plans are to continue studying art and “try not to plan too far ahead in the future.” You can see more of Evan's artwork HERE. Visit Evan's Facebook page HERE.
