Tatiana Labinsky is a Houston-based artist that has just graduated from the University of Houston with a BA in creative writing and a BFA in painting with a minor in art history. Her work has been shown at the Blaffer Gallery and G Gallery in Houston, Texas. While based mostly in surrealism, her work deals with fantasy and psychological elements. Her love of fantasy and surrealism derives from her love of Frank Frazetta and Salvador Dali’s works. She usually works in acrylics, but does stray time-to-time into watercolors, oils, pastels, ink and scratchboard as well as silk-screening more recently. Tatiana describes her process: “When I start a painting, I try to think up an initial concept or storyline. As I begin to paint, I allow my idea to shift and change, perhaps taking on a completely new meaning to my initial concept. I allow the painting to paint itself in a way. Understanding of my concept or the specific meaning behind the painting shouldn’t be as important as the emotions a person feels when they see it. I want each viewer to feel or see something unique to their own experiences.” You can see more of Tatiana's artwork HERE
