April A Taylor was born in Metro Detroit in 1977.  She spent the majority of her childhood writing, taking pictures of everything that moved and exploring the darker side of the world via horror movies and books.  Some of her happiest childhood memories are of watching Nightmare on Elm Street movies and reading Clive Barker’s Books of Blood.

In 2007 she made the decision to become more serious about her lifelong hobby of photography.  Quickly she began to focus her work on showcasing the hidden beauty in places that society has forgotten and/or finds undesirable.  Over the next 2 years she traveled the country photographing ghost towns and abandoned buildings, always seeking to capture things in a way that would express her particular viewpoint of the world around her.  She also began doing photoshoots for multiple performing artists, models and families and greatly enjoys the creative challenge of putting her own unique spin on such photographs.

In 2009, she began mixing her writing skills with her photography through the usage of Illustrative Photography.  Telling an entire story solely through photographs was a challenge that satisfied her more than anything else to date and is a format that she continues to utilize for the vast majority of her photoshoots.

In 2010, her Fine Art portfolio began to gain attention; pieces from her collection were published and exhibited internationally and she was also named the first ever Artist of the Month in June 2010 by Detroit area radio station 93.9 FM.  This led to the decision to begin focusing on her artistic endeavors on a full time basis.

April’s natural inclination towards the dark and horrific began to infiltrate her work in a more obvious way throughout 2010.  Without pre-planning it, she found herself with the beginnings of a Dark Art photography line.  As soon as this realization was made she quickly embraced it and began devoting the majority of her time towards creating Dark Art.  The line has been well received by the horror community and was displayed in 5 different gallery shows throughout the last Halloween season. It is also being shown at multiple horror conventions throughout the USA.

April is committed to continual growth and evolution as an artist.
