GHOST THROUGH A GREEN WALL

The light recedes
and whispers
fade in the hall.
I know
where I am.
I hold a book open
in front of me
and I summon
words in the darkness.
It’s simple.
Move through the shades
and begin with me,
and I will believe in you.
It’s simple.
Your stories will drift
like smoke,
and you will believe in me.
From this, the living.
We will both understand.

THE RAVEN TREE

Snow gathered
in the blue spruce;
they came, and rested,
black feathers falling,
summons to
a widow’s dance.
Yes, we get that,
in this solstice.
We get the shadows
of imperfect wings.
Great, dark souls,
you are our ornaments.
Great, grace of shadows,
you are our truths.

SKELETON SONG

The wedding party
stopped, and prayed—
great stone columns,
saints in golden bones.
Here, we met,
on a bench outside.
Here you live,
and I will stay.
These are our vows,
of earth uncorrupted.

THE BLUE WEB

This thread, reaches to
a cold night on the ocean.
It never unravels.
We are the summoning
of snakes,
of songs,
of sleep.
We lie caught,
our wings in the strands,
a promise in bright waves.
