ONLY THE LONELY

My nerves are stretched taut
like live wires dancing in
my dreaming skull

Sweat drips down my back
like insects
I am watching and waiting for
something to happen

I want to freeze time
When I laughed and smiled
and you were by my side

I have wandered off the straight path
Into a darkened wood
Now they come and go
Through this revolving door

There is a guest outside
But I have tired of playing with
broken toys
And I am like the blind
afraid of the dark
Broken in strong places

HOUSE OF DOLLS

I take my little dolls
Until I hardly recognize myself
I long for the world that
comes with these pills
I need shelter from myself
This night is an open wound
Shaking and shivering
Please calm my fears
and deliver me
from the pendulum that
swings both ways

ANATOMY OF DEATH

You performed an autopsy
when you saw right through me
It caused an accident:
hands pointed at me
like silver pistols
speaking in whispers
and tongues
Dead to the world
Abandoned dreams
unfurl and unfold
I need your heart
to hear it beating
And need it bleeding
You've never seen such
grey skin frozen to the touch
We tempt death more
than the life we used to love

A ROSE FOR ALEXIS

The call will come
A rapping at the door
Floorboards creak under
the weight of worry
The thunder roars
Tensions held high
Just another senseless murder
Another devil in disguise
She prayed her heart out
For sheltering skies
A ghost to begin with
that did not know how to die

Alexis Child hails from Toronto, Canada and writes horror in its purest form: a calculated crime both against the aspirations of the soul and affections of the heart. She works at a Call Crisis Center befriending demons of the mind that roam freely amongst her writings. She lived with a Calico cat-child sleuthing all that went bump in the night and is haunted by the memory of her cat.

She is currently signed to Nostilevo Records. Her fiction has been featured in The House of Pain, Screams of Terror, SpecFicWorld.com,The Official Nephilim Site, and U.K.’s Dark Of Night Magazine. Her poetry has been featured in numerous online and print publications, including Black Petals, Blood Moon Rising, Estronomicon eZine, Death Head Grin, Midnight Lullabies Anthology, Sein und Werden, and elsewhere. Her book, “Devil in the Clock,” is coming soon from Screaming Dreams Press.
