APARTMENT 13
What’s behind the door in apartment 13?
The smell of something rotten
And helpless, muffled cries
A dimly lit light bulb
And a million buzzing flies
Trash outside the door
And rats scurrying about
And the sound of someone struggling
Trying desperately to get out
I’ve heard that the tenant
Has never been seen
But no one knows for sure
Who lives in apartment 13
VULTURES
When you’re done with your body
And your soul has departed
The vultures will eat
The part that’s discarded
We look down upon them
As scavenging scum
Eating rotted flesh
In the hot summer sun
But if they disappeared
Oh, how we’d miss them!
The garbage disposals
Of nature’s ecosystem
To them rancid meat
Is a tasty dinner treat
Like a steak is to us
They like infectious pus
They’ll start with your eyes
Ignoring the flies
Fighting over dibs
On who gets your ribs
One gets your tongue
Another gets your lung
They’ll eat your toes
They’ll eat your nose
Sun or rain
They’ll eat your brain
Snow or mud
As long as there’s blood
They love the taste
They leave nothing to waste
It sounds gross and vicious
But to them it’s delicious
It doesn’t get any better
Except if it’s deader!
To a vulture, it’s Heaven
A fermented feast
Their only desire:
You must be deceased!
I DREAM OF HALLOWEEN
I dream of zombies and hellhounds
And vampire bats
I dream of monsters and witches
And their little black cats
I dream of mummies that walk
Even though they’re dead
I dream of the headless horseman
With a pumpkin for a head
I dream of winged demons
And scary black lagoons
I dream of invisible men
And bright, full moons
I dream of dancing skeletons
And coffins full of spiders
I dream of old cemeteries
And warm apple cider
I dream of angry ghosts
And werewolves that howl
I dream of haunted houses
And psychos on the prowl
I dream of scary stories
With demented, haunting words
Like Edgar Allen Poe
And his creepy talking bird
I dream of falling leaves
And walking undead hoards
Of phantoms in haunted opera’s
Playing melancholy chords
I dream of candy corns
And creatures of the night
I dream of trick or treat
By the moons full light
I dream all night long
And every day in between
Of my favorite night of all
I dream of Halloween |
