ART BY CHRIS (KYOSTI) DRYER

Chris (Kyosti) Dyer was adopted from Finland at age five, along with his brother and sister, by a couple who lived in San Diego, where he grew up. Since then, he has moved to New Hampshire.

He first became interested in the arts in Junior High school by seeing some films in art classes about MC Escher and Vincent Van Gogh. The films stuck with him and he was hooked on art ever since. Once he got to High School, art became almost an addiction. He had a difficult time communicating verbally, so he communicated through his artwork.

After High school, Chris entered the United States Air Force, where he continued to sketch. After the Air Force, he attended art classes in college. But when his brother unexpectedly died in 1979, he quit creating art and spent all of his time camping and almost became a reclusive hermit.

In the next decade, Chris moved to New Hampshire to be with his sister, which eased his grief somewhat. But he discovered the real cure for grief was to once again create art. He’s been painting ever since and has found the peace that only art could provide for him.
